Yes I know it's my money and my life so I should do what I want, BUT I have heard so many conflicting reviews of this phone that I have never been so confused in my whole lifetime about anything!!!

Is the P990i really a bad and unstable phone when compared to the P900 and P910i? Or is this down to the fact that most people don't know how to handle such a phone (i.e closing down applications with file managers etc to free up some RAM)?

Your thoughts much appreciated as I don't know if I should buy one!

Cheers

I want to buy it, too. I still have my trusty and stable P900. I am planning to wait until next year, when the fon has the latest fw and is more stable.

I don't know about others but in my case after using P990 it would be literally unbearable to come back to P910. It is a thousand miles above it i.e. P910 is a real toy comparing to P990, two totaly diferent dimensions. And day after day I am more and more happy with my purchase. If other people call it compromising then I agree.
What is also true is that it has it's shortcomings (memory i.e. RAM) and can't be recommended to everybody specially not to non experienced users. It needs memory management care using task manager or better swiss manager. Otherwise it's absolutely amazing phone with so many features that's is almost to good to be true.

I think you should just look at how many are up for sale on esato alone and from hard core p9 fans, And also how cheap its dropped in like a few weeks.

I personally wouldnt bother going for it. If you want a real stable business phone go for a Windows Mobile, especially if you plan on using push email.

My Tytn was absolutley brilliant and I couldnt fault it. I know a newer and slimer version is out soon so maybe you want to look into that.

I really like my p990, it works great for me. Mine has some annoying bugs but no where near as bad as others and nothing i a new firmware couldnt fix(with the exception of maybe the memory issue). If you already waited this long I would recommend waiting about another month to see what the new firmware will fix.

Today I got a call from my friend who wanted me to look at a certain web site. He likes traveling and found some excursion trip to the mountain Kailash. I said him to wait a moment, put him on speaker phone, opened notes app., wrote web site and just pressed the link. A few second later we were online discussing about it while I was looking at beautiful pictures in brilliant screen also in landscape mode. So at that moment I couldn't open 5 more apps like in P910 but I didn't need it at all.

I love my p990. Its an orange p990 btw. I previously had a P900 and it served me so well, i still love it. I decided to skip the P910 as it wasn't enough of an upgrade.

Just to give an example or two, was announced today that manchester is going to be free wifi citywide in 2007, my p990 will LOVE that. I was on the train yesterday using agile messenger and using the qwerty keyboard is so fast, its just a dream to use. I have it will the flip off btw, its so much sexier without the flip.

Like the dude earlier said, it has got a few issues, but just get swiss manager pro and it works a treat. This phone does the lot, and looks the part. Don't listen to all the peeved M600 users, the P990 is still the king and will be for some time, esp with a new firmware by xmas.

If you are going to do some serious text typing on the phone, do not buy this one, unless you have small fingers. The buttons are reeeally small. Otherwise, excellent phone, good on email and messaging, wireless network, and, GPS navigation! (TomTom 6) With the latest firmware it is very stable. If provoked with many applications open at the same time, it can perhaps reboot in order to free up memory, it has happened a few times, but no big deal. TomTom is pretty heavy, but runs smoothly on mine. Menus can take a while to open, but i read a trick in some forum, that if you open the media player, and leave it open, the rest of the menus open a lot quicker. The full potential of the processor in this phone has not been utilitzed, so future firmwares might fix that. It is still a fairly new phone, concerning firmwares. It should have been released in March, but has been postponed several times, until it was good enough to be released for the public. So, I'd recommend it, with exeption of the small keyboard. For lots of text typing, look at HTC TyTN or similiar, or Nokia communicator.

Regards,
Tom
