A while back there were news reports of Microsoft paying royalties to Universal music on per unit sales of the upcoming (now released) Zune. Basically it's an ass-kiss move on Microsoft's part because they have a lot of ground to cover before they could even hope to catch up with the iPod.
Well now
Universal is trying to get Apple to pay the same blood money as well. WTF!?! Not only did Universal not have a DAMN thing to do with creating the iPod or iTunes music store, they already get paid the lions share of money collected from digital downloads. Now these greedy F*CKS want MORE money for something they have NO INVESTMENT IN!
So how long is it going to take before they demand a cut from our phones that can hold music? Or PSP's and computers, or anything they want for that matter?
I hate the music industry with all my heart! I love to support musicians and will buy CD's from the local artists or indie labels, but now I have a personal vendetta against Universal Music. (and I'm sure all the other labels will follow suit soon)
