The W810i usually played songs perfectly.
However now, Im having a problem that affects only 1 Song.

I noticed it when I bought a 1gb pro duo off ebay and put all my songs onto this card (my other pro duo is now used for Sony w-30 camera memory).

I put one song on, Katie Melua's "Shy Boy", and when I attempt to play it, a message appears saying "failed". Every other song has worked, and I can swear it used to work with the old pro duo I now use in my Sony W-30 camera.

To test this out I put Shy Boy onto my old Pro-Duo 1gb, and playback failed on that memory stick too.

What should I do? Is there a way to dfix this?

don't listen to that song? not sure really...maybe you might need to re-encode the song, might be that it's got slightly corrupted though or something :S I'm not too sure tbh

If the song is the problem, then reencode it. Or forget that song. But if the problem exist with the other songs too, I think that formatting the card would solve the problem. After all you card has been used in another device which has different firmware and writing methods compared to your phone, so if the problem occures with other files, formatting can help. But first back up your data before formatting the card.

I have re-ripped the track in various bitrates and put them on the device, reformatted the memory cards sticks, the only thing I've stopped short of is doing a full phone reset, for fear of what will be deleted. I dont want to proceed with this until I guarantee certain things wont be deleted.

Im at a loss as to why it only affects 1 song out of hundreds. The song works fine on the PC, as do the others in Katies' album. When put on the phone, it fails with no real reason given.

I read somewhere that updating the phone firmware might help... really?
I will try anything.

Well after all, if you want the song that much I have a solution for your problem that really works. The song works on the computer because the computer has better audio codecs for playback which filter the songs perfectly so you do not have any problems, which is not the same case with the w810. So you can re record it (not reencode, rerecord). It can be done in few steps. First I hope you are using NERO for burning you cds. This is the software you need to do the re recording.

1. Go to start/programs/nero/ and open Nero Wave Editor.

2. Prepare the song for playback (open it as you usually play and press the stop button to make sure it is on the beggining).

3. Go to Nero Wave Editor and select REC (record). The red record button can be found on the bottom of the program.

4. When the second record dialog appers press the OK button.

5. Then you'll have to add the sound card OUT as your primary sound IN device - make the computer record the sounds it makes itself (note: everything else will be recorded so you have to make sure you do not have any other programs running because the Windows sounds and error messages and etc.. will be recorded to the song ). In the Recording Device option select Stereo Mix (this value is variable so in other computer it can be found as Stereo Mixer and etc...).

6. When you selected it, adjust the volume (in your media player, not the computer speakers or the system volume).

7. Press the record button and start playing your song.

8. Wait until the song is over and then press OK again.

9. Now save the song in MP3 format and put it in your phone if it does not work.

Hope this helps. If not just upload the song for me so I can convert it for you and send it back to you.

Thanks

@ Darkspark

Dude that error would happen to me EVERY time I deleted a track out of the file manager in Sounds or within the subfolder for an Artist that is part of the name of the track.

ie. Minefield - Prodigy (track) is listed in a folder called Prodigy, and subfolder called Matrix (soundtrack- I know I never got the album; just had 12" recording long ago). If I DELETE the track out of this Matrix folder and then try to play it in Walkman then I got "Playback failed"

> btw a tip. Stop using Variable bitrates for your music. quality will suffer. Just my humble opinion.

the song might not be deleted, just in a different folder than it was when the playlist was made.

Why do you want to play it, after you delete it. Of course it can't play the song.

It does not say playback failed. I know that bug. If I pull out my pro duo, when the phone is still on and try playing a song, this error happens, because obviously it cannot find the file. I am ripping at 320kbps MP3, which to my knowledge is not a variable bitrate.

Im am not playing it from a playlist either. I am playing it directly from its folder, when it actually resides.

It just says "FAILED". However, if I fast forward the track to even 0.01 seconds, the rest of it will play fine, but that is not helpful when you have the phone if your pocket on a journey.

@ strizlow800

Could I take you up on your offer? Im running Vista at the mo, and Nero 6 is not compatible with that, so all I have is windows disc burner.
Ill upload the file on megaupload, and have sent it to the email address you have in your profile.
Fingers Crossed it works.
