Other than the "reset file number", which just makes the next picture to start from 1 again, what are my options to set the next picture number?
I would like to set it to say 1500, so I do not have to overwrite other pix I have taken and moved to my laptop. So far, I had to create new folders on the computer to separate the pix.

Very easy. Just copy a file to the DCIM\100MSDCF folder on your memorystick with the name DSCxxxxx.JPG where xxxxx is the number that you want to start the sequence from.
And a simple trick to prevent the number resetting in future is to always leave at least one photo (the most recent) on the memorystick.

But I do have a lot of pix on the camera folder. And that is exactly what I hoped the reset will do. Will look at the last picture # and assign the next available #.
But the moment I chose reset, it all went back to picture # 1.
Update: I just noticed this, but he moment I choose reset, a new folder is created on the MS. Hence the picture # going back to 1, because it does not see any other pix in the new folder. Hmmm...
2nd update: I deleted the folders, and renumbered one pic in the default folder to be DSC00500.JPG. next picture had the last # + 1 (DSC00501).JPG. so it worked.
The reset file option will ALWAYS create a new folder and start from picture # 1 within the new folder.
