> Battery life with Java application

i observed an interesting thing. one night when (battery was fully charged.) i was surfing on opera mini on K700, i forgot
to exit the application and left it for whole night. ofcourse its light was in power saving mode, though in morning i got my battery meter showing at 10%.
whole night it was in standby mode. even though it seams that battery was being used heavily because the application was open ( even i didnt use it).!!! any hav same exp.

@raverockz, I'm from Singapore too. I'm using Opera Mini on my K750i. Using StarHub, no problems. However, I did encounter some problems using it on some other phones. It didn't work on my Motorola E398, nor my friend's V3. Had problems using it on my Nokia 6030 but it worked after tweaking some settings. Worked great on my Nokia 3230 and my current K750i. Anyway, the app is free, but you have to pay for the gprs used.

It is normal for the phone to lose power just from having an aplication running. The reason is because the java engine is turned on and is using lots of power. Even if the phone is in standby and the app is set to run in background.

right. but if i run any other app. other than opera mini, and leave it for hours it do not show much effect on battery.(almost negligible).ok. if it is possiblle that the drop is due to continuous gprs connection, i checked it. i used my native browser this time, connected it and left it for hours. it didnt had the drop in battery.
SO my question is this
why this happens with the operamini only.?

yeah this happens on my k800, and used to even happen with the walkman app on my w800...if i left it open, and not playing music, it would still drain the battery alot.

I dont have that problem, I often fall of to sleep while chatting on an IM app, and when I wake up I dont even exit it, just minimise and keep it running for another couple of hours.
If you were on Opera and was on a website with flashing icons ect, maybe that could be the reason, and a nice GPRS bill to!
