Hi all, I have owned a white W850i for about a month. It's still brand new and I have never drop or knock it. However, recently I discovered that there was a hair line crack above the down button on the directional pad.
I had brought it down to the SE service center in Singapore last Sat 9/12/06 and after 2 hours of waiting for my turn the Customer Service girl told me that what happened to my W850i was a common problem. It could be a manufacturer fault as there was quite a number of cases recently. She told me that they have ordered the spare parts but it will only arrived in a few weeks time. She advised me to hold on to my phone and then she took down my name and contact numer and have promised to call me once the part arrived.

Did anyone else experience the same problem as me?

Welcome kennieteo,

It's a shame for a higher-end model like this one to have such a problem.

Ah, what a shame. The new d-pad design was always going to have some flaws.

Hi all,

thank you very much for your replys. Fortunately yup, the serivce center agreed to service it under warranty.

However, till now I've yet to receive any call from them with regards to the availability of the replacement part.

I've actually switch back to my trusty Nokia N80 as I do not want to inflict further damage to the D pad. I'm afraid I might make the crack worst and the Service Center will then have an excuse to say that I've caused the crack myself and charge me for the part replacement.

It's really frustrating as I can't use my W850i now. It's a real shame as I really like to make use of it more! Hope the Service Center will call me soon.

Well, I've just noticed the exact same crack on my white W850i The people from the service centre said they didn't have that particular part. It seems that things are going from bad to worse...

SE definitly should have made the directional pad of some resilient crack proof
material

Or a more flexible material like the one on the W950.
