I’m generally very happy with reception on my new 990 .I’m in Dublin City, Ireland where there is pretty good Vodafone coverage. However, I’ve noticed the same problem that Vpoil reported with the 990 – if I lose a signal in an underground car park or whatever it will take forever for the phone to pick up a signal again . The “emergency numbers only” sign will often stay on until I manually reconnect by turning flight mode on and off. Wonder if there is anything in the software that can be tweaked to make radio look for signal faster after an outage? Hope this isn’t a sign that the radio itself is weaker than the one in my old nokia! Another thing I've noticed is that the display stays on during a recharge with phone off.

just had an idea that it might be something to do with 3g? I have the 3g/GSM auto setting on.

It could be although I doubt it because I had the same problem with my P910.

I think that after a time where no signal is available, the phone stops searching. this way the battery life is extended. otherwise if the phone wil look and search for available networks ALL the time, and the battery will drain rather quickly. so call it a "feature" in this case.

you may be right, I didn't think of that. If that's the case I wish they put in an option to turn this off or give diffrent time periods before it kicks in.

Here’s something else that I haven’t worked out yet : when the 990 is connected to my PC some of the folders on the phone and storage card are hidden. I noticed this when I installed SMS DIARY and wanted to transfer saved pages to the PC. The pages are stored in the media file on the storage card. But the file can’t be seen on the PC unless I take the mem stick out of the phone and stick into my pc card reader. I’ve enabled “show hidden files” on the PC folder but it only displays the basics – music, photos, doc etc.

@mac,
try changing the settings for usb from phone mode to usb mode. Then it will see all the folders and will work like a normal usb drive. Once you are done with it you can change it back again. Hope this helps.
