hello all
whilst updating my k800 firmware my laptop lost its powers supply and shut down. this was when the wotan client was in the middle (think writing block 154/'someAmoint') of updating the phone's firmware.
now my phone is completely dead and unresponsive. numerous and various attempts to connect the phone to the pc, reflash it, or simply turn it on have all failed.
does any one have any suggestions or (sadly as i suspect) have i killed my phone?
my only option at the moment is to ring 3 and try and blag it saying its simply died during normal use (as my first, and many other's, k800s have)?
if i do this what are the chances that, having had the phone sent in for repair, the engineers will notice my shoddy attempt to alter the firmware and tell me to shove my phone!?
any help is greatly appreciated!
thanks

welcome here

if u wanna flash a branded fone with generic fw, u can do it, but then the warranty is over. next to it, 3 will check it and they can see, if u wanted to flash with a non 3 fw, in that case, u have no support anymore.

in my dealing with 3, on behalf of customer's, 3's software engineer's will simply try and reflash the handset..if no good, they will send a replacement..it's known that 3's engineer's aren't the most thorough..

3 will send the phone to a Sony Ericsson repair centre.
There, they could theoretically check the firmware to see if it's been tampered with, but to be honest, from experience, all they will do is reflash it for you.
I removed the O2 - UK branding from my W800i and changed the CDA string to match standard sim-free retail.
Months later (and unrelated to my flashing of the firmware) I had to send the phone in for repair due to Bluetooth freezing the phone (a common problem with the W800i I hear). When I got it back, they had simply flashed the firmware again, also with unbranded firmware! It didn't fix the Bluetooth issue though, which I never managed to fix. Guess it's a hardware bug.
In short though, they probably won't check, so you have very little to worry about. And if you got as far as changing the CDA, you might get it back unbranded.
