Hunters in India’s remote northeast are tracking a rogue elephant blamed for 14 deaths in the region and named after Osama bin Laden by fearful villagers.

The order came after the bull dubbed Laden, which has twice evaded attempts to kill him, was blamed for the death of a woman Wednesday near the thickly wooden evergreen jungle where it lives.

“We have ordered a hunter to shoot and kill the 10-feet tall tuskless bull that is believed to have killed up to 14 people in the past two years,” Chandan Bora, a wildlife ranger, said Friday from Bishwanath Chariali, 150 miles north of Gauhati, the capital of Assam state.

with things like this they normally kill 20 other elephants first before they decide they got the right one... It's the same with shark attacks...

I wonder how many other elephants died because of that one mad one...

Well... India happens to be in Asia, so ultimately its an asian elephant afterall... Its unfortunate to have the creature killed.. Where were the peta folks when this happened!

I'm all for Peta and animal rights etc, e.g. 100% against hunting. But just like a human, if something or someone is going around killing or harming people unprovoked, something must be done, and unfortunately communication is out of the question here. I think that the display of flowers shows that they respect him, I think.
