does anyone know if the clear rectangle on the top actually is, to the left, next to the memory stick slot? It looks like a light but no options to switch it on?

To elaborate on that slightly. It is a light sensor, when it gets dark the screen dims and when it get lighter it increases the brightness to make the screen easier to see in sunlight.

hey jcwhite_uk, i'm not entirely sure since i don't own a w850, but wouldn't it make more sense that, in the morning where there's more light, the screen goes dimmer to save battery life, and when it gets dark, the screen goes brighter.?? Once again, I can be wrong, but I've heard other w850 users post a similar idea
