you're right, it's a real flash. but the torch app uses the red autofocus light as a torch

the red light is only visible when there are poor lightning conditions. if you press the camera button in midday and put your eye next to the flash you won't see anything.(if you tried it on a sunny day)

I have the same problem- except i have never installed torch- last night i was able to get 2 photos off with the shutter button, but usually (99% of the time) it only focusses. I don't know what changed but i think it is a hardware issue with the button mechanism itself.

I took apart my phone an f**ked around with it for a while- apparently i fixed the switch- it took a long time.
just curios- my shutter switch has a dimple in the very centre of the white rubber circle- it looks like it is an impression from the black rubber on the bottom of the shutter button attached to the face plate. (in other words the silver shutter button left a dimple on the white part of the shutter switch inside the phone.
can anybody confirm this is true for other phones?

Don't start torch and click More > Permissions > Multimedia > No

Then start torch application , you see red light on autofocus.
