Yeah you might be able to run vista but it will run like sh*t plus you wont really benefit from all the new visiuals, save up a bit and get something that will run vista better or just get one and just run XP.

Check out the dellfactoryoutlet shop on ebay. They are a branch of dell that sell all the damaged (from light scratches to bits missing) and refurbished laptops from dell at highly reduced prices.
eg my lappy cost £550. It has a 1 inch scratch on the bottom of the lid (easily replaced with snap on covers) and heres a few features:
90GB hdd
2GB ram
2GB dual core centino processor
I think a 15" WXVGA screen
DVD RW drive
WIndows XP
WiFi and Bluetooth
You may get a bargain!
edit: and its Vista capable

id say just buy a mac, like a base spec macbook, its a mistake buying a windows machine and you will realise it
