Bookmark topic
UK mobile phone users are now sending almost 1 million picture messages every day, according to the first set of figures on MMS message activity released today by the Mobile Data Association (MDA).
ESATO NEWS
Data for the third quarter of 2006 revealed that 88 million picture messages were zapped over UK networks in the three months from July to the end of September, while October’s figures point to a further lift with the highest number so far 30 million during the month recorded by the MDA.
The numbers reflect increased usage of cameraphones in the UK, according to an MDA spokesperson, with the organisation estimating that over half of the UK’s phones are now picture message capable,The MDA’s upbeat MMS reports was released at the same time as the latest figures for text messages, with some 3.8 billion SMS messages tapped out and sent between UK mobile users during November.
That works out at an average of 126 million per day, with the total some 1 billion up on the comparable month in 2005. Over 37 billion text messages have been sent so far in 2006, according to MDA calculations.

I thought mms was dying out so this surprises me.
I think I once sent an mms just to try it out but tend to send any content such as pictures and video by email, even from my phones. Its much easier and less control over size etc

Yeah, I barely use MMS as well. If I really want a friend to have something on their phone, I'll just bluetooth it over to them. MMS is just too restrictive and expensive.

This really annoys me, for the fact that on my Vodafone contract which I took out about 10 months ago MMS was part of my package. It worked on the fact that 1 MMS = 3 SMS. Instead, they changed all contracts in August so that we all have to fork out 30p per MMS and seeing as the usage of sending MMS is on the increase I hate to think Vodafone are making even more money out of this after shifting the goal posts.
(annoyed with Vodafone, can you tell?)

Contracts:
Orange is the Dearest in the UK
25p for a MMS up to 49kb, Over 49kb it costs 50p
Vodafone are 36p amd 16p if you just send words on the mms up to 2 kb
T-Mobile are 20p, depending on contract
02 uses the best system in the world.
4sms = 1 mms, so if you have a sms in your contract bundle you can use it for mms, vms (Video Messages) But not only that.
You can send an SMS from abroad out of the bundle
1 sms from aborad uses 4 out of the bundle
No other network does this in the uk
Three are 25p
Virgin are 30p
To send MMS When you are Roaming
All the networks except Orange a Voda are the same price.
Orange Range from 70p per mms to £1.50 MMS (Depending on the Country)
Again Orange is the Dearest
Voda charge you for the MMS and GPRS Charge as well.
Hope this helps
