> unlocked k800i and Cingular 3G

I purchased this handset unlocked (and currently on T-Mobile USA) and wanted to switch carrier and use it on Cingular's 3G service. However, the rep/manager told me that it won't work as my phone needs an upgraded firmware that's preloaded on all of Cingular's phones. The firmware is not available from the Company.
Is this true? Is there a way around this?

Maybe you must re-flash your phone

This guy has no clue what he is talking about. The K800i is an international phone and runs the 3G band with 2100Mhz. Cingular has a so called '3G' service, but it is supplied on the 1900Mhz band. This is incompatible with International 3G phones. I know that sucks, as does cingular. This is a hardware incompatibility, so a firmware upgrade will not do a thing.
