> Moving to m600i from E61
Bookmark topic
Just moved to a SE m600i some 5 days ago from an E61. Just felt like sharing my views on the experience and would love to hear what some of you might have to share related to your own experiences.
Pre m600i
I always felt that the E61 was the best thing to have happened to mobile phones. It had everything I wanted except the Camera. Ease of use, speed, power, appliocations, wifi, GPRS. After all, what more could anyone ask for?? I grew so fond of the beast that I even left behind my laptop for meetings, client visits etc. Then, I realised that I had spent more time with the phone than any other phone in my life to date and that got me thinking. I managed to get a good deal on the phone and sold it off. That was the beginning of hell. I had imagined I would get myself a P990i but I soobn realised that there were two major problems :
1) SOny seemed to be taking off the phones from my market ( my assumption, since they were immpossible to find anywhere)
2) The ones that were available were way beyond my budget,
To cut a long sitry short, I decide to take the jump onto UIQ and bought the M600i since it at least had the thumbboard as opposed to the numeric keypad on its walkman brother.
Let me assure you the first two days were hell. No GRPS, my operator;s settins refused to work on the phone, I couldnt get to grips with the keyboard ..., I was almost using it like the good old Nokia 3310.
And then... I once I had fiddled with it enough, I started realisinig the amazing simplicity and power of the beast. It was just a matter of getting used to something so new. Again, to cut it short, I managed to get everything working on the phone the last 3 days, and today, I could but admire the sheer brilliance of the device. Everything about it spells detail. Menus, applications all begin responding like a charm.
And thats when it hit me. I didnt miss myE61. In fact, I was beginning to fele glad, it was off my shoulder. This is so sleek, the screen is amazing, UIQ ROCKs, everythihng is just right. The internet access speed is maybe 3 times that on the Et61. It rocks, im loving it.
All I can say to all my fellow E61 users ad of now is that open your minds and look beyiond, there's a better world out there. Try it, you wont regret.
Im sure not everyone out there would feel as passionate either ways on this topic, but do drop in your comments.

@jaydeepg,
Well if your happy good for you but you certainly must be one of the few to have made the switch this way round. I don't know how you claim that it's 3 times faster for web browsing as the Nokia browser is so much faster and IMO better than horrible Opera but as i said if your happy good luck to you. I couldn't wait to get rid of my M600 as again IMO UIQ3 is so slow it was a joke.

Guys, its not like I am entirely unaware of the issues UIQ3 is facing. Let me assure you that I went through a HUGE number of forums and when I bought the m600i, it waas out of scepticism. Thats all the more reason for my elation. I upgraded the firmaware first thing I took it in my hand. Have no desire to get into the topic of my firmware is better than your, but hey, things seem to be working and working well.!!! Not to say they could go wrong soon. !!!

I have a P990 and M600 and I am very very impressed with the M600. Speed problems can be cured with a Master Rest and sometimes by re-formatting the M2 card. Also switch-off hand writing recognition. I did try the E61 but I found I preferred touch screen devices and I did not like the form factor. On the E61 wifi was also very difficult to set-up...

I was also in a tussle between the E61 and the M600. After a long, hard, thought out debate in my mind, I decided to go with the M600.
Here are my reasons:
Firstly, I was glad that neither phone had a camera since this only added to the bulk. I also liked the full keyboard as I am become more and more of a text message/email user on the phone. These two factors narrowed it down to between the E61 and the M600.
1. Form factor. I played with the E61 and I just found that it was a bit too big for my liking. I couldn't easily operate it with one hand. For example, tapping out an SMS with one hand was quite cumbersome to me. The M600i won here for me since I could easily use it with one hand. It also felt light in my hands (my previous phone was the K750 and before that I had a P910).
2. Lack of Wifi. For me, this was not a big concern since I almost never use the phone for web browsing; only checking email. The only thing I could think of that I would use on the phone that required an internet connection would be IM; but for that, I was willing to give up the wifi and get UMTS instead. It was easy for me to exchange wifi with improved battery life.
3. Touch screen. This was a big plus for me, and I felt it missing ever since I moved from the P910.
That was all the plus that I got for the M600; and it was enough for me. A lot of people like the E61 because of the SIP stack it has, but for me -- this wasn't a big factor as I didn't anticipate using it for SIP-based calls.
The minus for M600 (ie, things I find annoying about it). Most of these are due to my time away from SE smartphones, but in the early days of use, I found the following that I have yet to figure out: how to get the screen to light up on an incoming text message or other alert. This is important as there is no other visual alert/notification (there is no light that will change color or flash).

Day 8 and still no restarts, crashes, bugs. Only happiness and more of it. The more I think of it, I feel that the E61 is a geek phone and the m600 is a real world smartphone.
