Hi,

I have a 2-3month old m600i. I purchased this in Singapore (via eBay) for use in Australia. I have managed to update the firmware to what appears to be the latest. The phone offers 2 language option on startup. UK English and Chinese. The keyboard is a QWERTY layout. The phone operates reasonably well except its a little slow compared to a few a other push email phones I have used. Then again that would be no surprise to anyone here as the UIQ3 still needs a bit of tweaking.

My issues are related to languages and I wonder if this is normal on most m600i's or it just because I bought a Singapore version. The handset has a display language of English but a number of Asian language features seep through. I am unable to try any of the other language files (US version) as the firmware is newer than what on offer at the SE site for DL.

The specific issues are:

- No other option for virtual keyboard other than Chinese or None. However an English keyboard does appear but has a some Asian characters on it. (Chinese keyboard toggle). Is this normal?
- A floating palette that appears to have Japanese (I'm no expert) Katakana symbols on it that toggles the option on the top of the phone. Should this have English Characters on it? How do I get rid of it? Comes up when using handwriting specific tasks.
- Lunar calender. Not really all that annoying but should it still be there after selecting UK English?

I would really appreciate if these are issues as a result of buying an "eBay special" or this is common on UK/Aus phones as well?

Sorry if this has all been asked before.

Sorry mate but it is due to the fact that you got your phone in Singapore, I have a New Zealand realease M600i and there are no Asian characters to be seen any where.

You might be able to take it in to your local SE shop and have them re-flash it with a 'world generic' firmware, and this should take care of your problems.

The SEUS is quite 'user friendly' in that it won't let you upgrade to a different locale firmware; but a repair center can do that for you; atleast this is what I have understood from people in the same situation as yours.
