After totally destroying my W950 with a single 20Mb font file a comment that Coxy made, made me think.

His comment was as follows:
Quote:
"No point going to SE, as you have altered the phone they wont fix it."

Have I really altered the phone? I put one single font file in a folder on the D drive and now my phone is useless.
But why?
Is it my fault for putting that file there or is it SE's fault for using cheap flash memory that doesn't support eXecute In Place, forcing them to make the OS cache everyhing into RAM leaving you with a whopping 15-19Mb working RAM out of 64Mb.

And if this one font file can cause the phone to be stuck in a crash loop, what's going to happen when you install 20Mb's worth of programs and/or language packs onto the phone? Will it not also try to cache all the programs into RAM and go into the very same crash loop?

Or am i just executing the bull by the wrong horn?

To be honest, if you dont tell SE what you have done they will most likely fix your phone and call it corrupt data, which I belive is still covered by warranty. Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

(Going to be doing exactly that )

But even so, my issues aside, if installing enough applications onto it will crash it, they'd either have to somehow fix UIQ 3 itself (Not really sure if XIP is a file system or memory dependant thing) or just do a mass recall of all the phones.
I mean a half functioning phone is not what I paid for, if you get my meaning.

I reckon Ive got well over 20mb of applications on my M600i and no issues so far (fingers crossed) other than the usual UIQ problems.

Enough Apps to fill your entire onboard memory and another 4-5Meg on an external stick?
How much RAM do you have free on startup or even at this present moment?
And one last thing, do you have any AntiViruses or Firewalls installed?

Thanks.
