Hi, i want to improve my PC so it will be able to play gaming steadily, when i 1st got the Pc it would play hi end games easily with good graphics but now high end games like call of duty 2 jump alot, and im not sure why as since being able to play games fine i have doubled the ram and put in a new graphics card.
The current spec is:
Tiny D845HV motherboard
Windows XP home
Intel pentium 4 CPU 1,80 GHz
80GB hard drive
1GB ram
Radeon 9600SE 128mb graphics card
What can i do to improve the gaming performance on my PC?

Your pc is almost outdated..
The graphics card will be choked by slow 64bit memory interface and 9600 wont do any good with new age games (i own a 9600).
your cpu will be chocked by your 400/533 MT/s bus.
You have to upgrade almost entirely.
Answering your question,update the graphic and motherboard drivers.
Disable unnecessary services and programs running on background.
Disable graphic intensive functions like antialiasing ,reduce anistropic filtering,reduce resolution.
Generally reduce the texture quality and shadows.Disable particles if possible.

cheers mate, i know its outdated but i was able to play call of duty 2 fine when i 1st got it and know i cant. Think im going to complete reformat my computer and then start updating it. i cant find any new drivers for my motherboard, can anybody else? thanks

Might be some settings prob.
Here there are some COD2 tweaks.In that site,you can find many general tweaks.
and defraging,disabling AV would be a nice idea..

basically get a hdd just for windows and programs... ie a nice 80+gig one... just install windows on it and the bare essentials... you dotn even need to install COD 2 on this hdd... if you keep in under 25% full it'll run a shed load better... if your windows hdd goes above 75% full it'll run like a commodo 64
but if COD 2 did run fine then a reinstall of windows will do the trick.... just try now to clog it up with too much crap

cheers pal! iv just checked the ststus of my hard drive and it only had about 6GB left empty, which is around 8%! lol so now iv had to uninstall ALL my games and alot of software as i had started experiencing random crashed very frequently which i think is down to the low amount of HDD space. Im gonna order a new 250-320GB driver today. Which are best out of the Western Digital drives and the Buffalo ones below?

but i take it your buying one of those to use as a backup drive? (where your files such as music/vids are stored?
i seriously recommend having your primary hdd as only your windows drive... that way windows re-instals are also a dodle as most of your programs games are stored on the back up drive (in this case id assume thats your extenal one)
personally i go for western digital when i buy a hdd... but i dont know which is necessarily better in this instance
