I bought a cheap HP printer from Tesco yesterday and returned it today. Why? Because the replacement cartridges cost nearly £15 for 5ml of black ink and £20 for 7ml of tri colour ink. Not bad for a printer costing £35. And this was not a Lexmark who are renowned for their high prices. So that makes it £3000 for a litre.
No wonder it is cheaper to throw the thing away!

saw an article in a pc mag a few weeks ago on the same lines. saying printers are cheaper than the ink. they showed a laser printer you could buy for £75 it cost £150 to replace the cartriage or something in that region.
possible how the markets going whatever printer you buy, though i suppose they work on the principle once youve got the printer and your using it you gonna need ink so why not get you to buy the printer for bugger all then get the real cost back in ink.
bit like the mobile companies you get a free phone and pay for it in line rentals and the call you make

You can get 5ml into a teaspoon, I think. That's what made me take it back. Got another with single ink tanks. At least you get something for your money!

What about those refil kits? you get 3 bottles of ink for about a fiver. u also get the injecter and printer specific instructions!

Get yourself fake HP ink and refill the printer your self for very cheap price. I do that for 2 years

I agree that ink is very expensive but there is alot of technology that goes into todays ink to ensure the quality of the droplets etc.
In fact HP have a
page about this including details of a 3rd party study on the topic of refilled cartridges etc

granted printer wasnt cheap but new toners are what £30/40 but the ammount of pages you get is immense.

Masseur - sure HP will say that compatible are no good for their printers, it's in their interests to say that. I have been using compatible cartridges for years and had very few problems. But £15 for 5ml, they must be joking!

Yeah it's crazy what they charge for inkjet cartridges. It's a lot more practical to have a laser printer.
