Right, i turned my w800 on on christmas day and everything was going fine, i then noticed that there was a line running down the screen, looking more closely it doesnt look like the screen has been scratched but more that the screen is damaged but it one perfect straight line running from the top to the bottom of the screen.
Has anyone else had this? what causes it and how is it fixed?

A picture would be helpful, though it sounds like you've cracked the internal LCD of the phone. You may be lucky and not get any LCD leakage, but I suspect you'll start to get black liquid crystals slowly blocking out the screen if it is the internal LCD that's damaged.
Replacement screens can be bought for about £25 off Ebay, and are fairly easy to fit.
