Hi all.
Just struggling to backup my P990.
Every time I try using the Backup Manager, 30 econds in and it reboots the phone and soon after it says the Backup was Cancelled by the phone.
Tried it on home PC and work.
Anyone any ideas.
Searched for similar threads and tried unchecking the Unified Inbox but still get the same failure.
Phone is virtually unchanged from coming out the box so pretty sure I've not cocked up any settings anywhere!
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers

I managed to backup mine twice and then it started to do the thing you describe. If u say it's virtually unchanged since you bought it then why don't y.ou syncronize with the pc and then restore to factory settings?it should work then

I have the same problem. Have spoken to SE about it and I have a call reference for this and aother things.
They did suggest doing a master reset and trying again. Before you do though, you can at least back up your contacts and calender using the contact and calender manger. It creates a backup on your duo

I'm a bit reluctant to do a Master Reset for a few reasons really:
1. Last time I did this on my P910, I lost quite a bit of stuff that was on the phone (apps, ringtones, themes, pics, etc) that had come on the phone originally.
2. I often sync all my contacts, calendar, work& home tasks (projects) with my work PC, but I have to manually move all tasks into relevant folders (as the sync doesn't take into account folders - not for me anyway)!
3. Also seems to lose other bits of info like voice commands and other little nuggets and it just takes ages to get it back to where you had it. . . .unless I'm doing things wrong.
Thanks for the replies and advice though.
Any other ideas - seems a real pain the SE software doesn't seem to it's fundamental job!
Cheers

I am having the same problem too. The backup was working before but not anymore. Also, I found that even if I did successfully backup the phone, it looks like not all my data is backup. I will lose all my newer SMS, both in inbox and sent. It looks like the backup is not done correctly ... or maybe it is the restoring that is causing the problem.

This is how i got it working, after at least 15 attempts on diffrent computers, PC-Suite versions etc (more to read in the New Firmware thread, page 18 and on or so.)
Yeey finally i got my backup working!! This is the settings i used when it worked for me:
PC-Suite 1.2.15
This was the first time i did a COMPLETE backup (inkl the mem. stick) and it worked! (In my previus attempts after the problem started, i didnt select the mem.card but now i did!)
M-Router 3.1.0.28
I set M-router to only use USB conection. (unmark Comport, BT and IR)
After this it worked!
Then i did a complete reset of the phone, flashed it and everything worked out perfekt! Im restoring the inbox and Calender right now, then im gonna explor the new firmware.

I also have the same trouble. I get to mms templates and the phone restarts and backup says cancelled by phone.
I did not have this problem before I updated to R7. I have removed the old and installed the new PC suite. I have been advised to try a new m-router but I can't find an update. I also sorted the usb connections mentioned by previous poster.
SE if I had wanted to be a Beta tester I wouldn't have trained as a brain surgeon.
The P990 is a sophisticated phone and teething problems are to be expected but the basic features should be working 100% when you first sell the phone. Some of us haven't even got all the basics yet.
The lack of soft key for the speaker is a joke, would SE's big boss expect his electric window buttons in his car boot [trunk for US friends] simply because it was easier or the designer forgot them.
SE your loyal customers who pay serious money for your products deserve better.

Did you try to "select all" when doing the backup? (advanced mode)

As has been mentioned a couple of times before:
Try the following: delete your previous backups and it will work again. Has workedforme as for many others.
Good luck!

Finally managed to get it to back something up!
Wouldn't do all at the same time but managed to Back up everything expect External Media and Inbox.
Then did Inbox separately and that worked.
So mostly sorted.
Thanks for the pointers.
