I live in United States and i have the k790a. My k790a was a gift (a great one at that)...and i have not updated because I'm afraid of WSOD or corruption of the phone while updating. My f/w version is R1EG001. Should I be afraid of a corruption while updating? Should I update? Will i see a change for the best if I update?
Also, what is "Discharge Flash" in the Service menu. I accidently pressed that.
I am sorry if these question have been asked...

Dont worry about updating the phone. its a safe process and you can always restart it if it goes wrong the first time. I you want to be extra safe close all programs before starting the update and remember not to do anything with the phone during the update. Just follow the instructions onscreen and you should be fine...
the discharge flash option in the service menu fires the camera flash at the back of the phone.

May I knew your EROM ver? You may want to upgrade to latest R3A016 before upgrading firmware. Most ppl seems to blame WSOD to corrupt EROM rather than firmware problem. Most important thing is never let the phone batt to become very low. This seems to cause most of WSOD situation. If you have R3A016 then it won't matter.
SEUS is very safe and SE will not authorised it if it is not safe (They will get more problem if SEUS broken ppl phone, as lots of repair job will hit them economically).

EROM is newest so you should not worry about WSOD. Newest firmware is R1GB. Try using SEUS (download the client and follow instruction). If they have newer firmware that is approved by your network then it will show up. Remember to fully charge batt and took the batt out for 5mins before updating.
