If you like a touch screen, P990 is the only way to go. New firmware just came out a few days ago with improvements.

I've dumped my P990 for a Samsung SGH-i320
P990 slow, buggy and not very clever menu system = to many steps to do simple things like searching in contacts f.ex, bad battery and BIG size. In flip-off mode useless as phone. Bad RAM handling in general, swiss pro a must to "survive", maybe better now with new firmware, will try and use with my twin-card but only because I've the machine.
Samsung is a dream, extremely slim but with full keyboard. Bad battery but at least you get two batteries in the pack and you can charge the 2nd battery separately. Windows mobile so much better than UIQ. Not even one hangup with this phone, with P990 many daily. AND active sync works better with standard software instead of 3rd party software needed for P990/UIQ

Well I would like it to have wi-fi, hopefully touch screen, good software for wi-fi, such as MSN Messenger and software for picking up emails. Also want a system where I can easily add useful 3rd Party-software. I know someone with a Palm system and they say its superb for adding extra software to do specific jobs.
This is why Im not sure on Palm, Symbian or Windows.
I will however use it 75% of the time as a phone - I just want the additional features such as a good address book, notes etc..

@bjorne
Searching in contacts is one of the easiest things on the P990...
In FC mode, just press down on the D-pad to open the adress book and then start typing using the number keys.
In FO mode, just hold a letter key on the keyboard to open the adress book on contacts starting with that letter.
Free text searching is a bit harder if that's what you meant, but using the FO letter key thingie to open contacts, it can still be done without using the touchscreen...

i would always advice P990. Amazing phone. For me the combination of touch screen, querty, predictive text, wifi, good camera, brilliant screen etc. is breath taking. And the UI is very user friendly for me (flipp on).
