Ok, I have three card readers and they *ALL* have problems writing to memory stick duo cards. The cards are 2 Gb and 4 Gb. Do you have any problems? It almost seems that some card readers can't read cards over x Mb., thought there is no such info in writing available.

Experiences? Thoughts?

Hi twolittleducks,

I know this problem also occurs with Mini SD cards of 2gb and apparently it is a Windows XP problem so i would guess it is the same for Memory sticks also.

My girlfriend has no problems with her card reader though. We both are on Windows XP Home SP2.

if they were bought from ebay they will most likely be fake cards with hacked firmware. the card may be a 256mb, but it will show 2gb free space and when you fill it with over 256mb data, you will get a write error like you have

I actually did buy one counterfeit card (which I have since returned) but even genuine cards have that problem. And only on my computer.

My conclusion is that I have one of the following problems:
* computer hardware issue (USB connection problem since the card readers are external, though they read CompactFlash cards ok)
* computer software issue (Windows/driver issue)

first and obvious question, do the card readers support MS DUO PRO? If it only supports MS DUO (and not pro) it won't read cards over 128MB

2nd, can you read 1GB or smaller cards? In other words is the problem only with your 2 and 4GB cards?

I only have 16 Mb, 32 Mb, 64 Mb, 2 Gb and 4 Gb cards.

It should support Pro, but I'll have to dig out the manual to verify it.

I believe max is right. It could be because you have an older card reader that doesn't support the memory stick pro. There are readers around that only support the memory stick, which is only up to 128mb, as max mentioned earlier.
