> p990i: midlet permission problem
Bookmark topic
Hi.
I'm not so sure if anyone has tried using Gmail app on their P990i. The problem I'm encountering is this: everytime the Gmail app tries to connect to the internet, there is a box saying that "Midlet permission request - A midlet in the untrusted Midlet suite Gmail is attempting to connect to the internet. Do you want to allow this" with only the following selection:
- No, not this time
- Yes, this time only
- No, not this session
- Yes, this session only
- No, never
I found it terribly annoying since every single time I try to click anything in the application it keeps asking me the same question with the same options to select. I'm wondering why there's no such option like "yes, and do not ask me again" or something like it at all.
IS there a solution to this at all?
Thank you in advance

Go to
Control Panel > Tools > Security > MIDLet Permissions
Select the name of the App and alter the settings as required.

This is how J2ME and MIDlets works.
A MIDlet are never allowed full access to internet without the users approval.
You can set it to only ask ones per session, but you can not grant it full access for every time you start the application.
This is to prevent MIDlets that access the network without the users knowledge, since network access in a mobile system could be quit costly for the user.

If the application is signed, youīll have the option "never ask"

I'm quite lost here. So if I want to give the permission to this application (or sign it), then how? I tried following Enigma-UK's direction and I found Gmail name. As soon as I click it, there's only two drop-down menus which I can choose. But when I choose something under 'User's permission' it always goes back to the "Automatic start" for some reason. The other drop down menu is to choose only between "Ask every session (Default), always ask and never ask". :'(
