> RE: P990. Is SE listening?
Bookmark topic
The past few weeks have seen topics and posts with P990 problems, solutions, suggestions for alternatives, rants, ideas for a class action lawsuit, an online petition, the list goes on.
I mentioned in another thread that we should be listing specific problems that can realistically be rectified instead of issuing generic complaints against the handset. Something adnhk1 mentioned really got me thinking. He said that SE decided to not include the option to turn transitions on/off because they are under the impression that users are happy with the speed. They're listening but how they came to the conclusion that the comment is representative of the entire population of users out there is beyond me.
I feel that what we're all missing is a link into SE. I'm not sure if anyone out there shares my dissatisfactions with the way things are handled right now, but I believe that we, as a community, may be able offer SE something valuable enough to warrant 2 way communication.
What I propose is simple. We name representatives (users) who'll communicate directly with SE. They in turn give us a go-to person. How this works out for us, is that our voices get heard, we stay in the loop. For SE, they get real data from real users. Focus groups are crap. And expensive. "Imagine a phone company that doesn't simply speak of Connecting People but really connects with its customers... It's not that hard to imagine is it?"
The business model works out as well. You'd think that really listening to your customer could serve as a pretty good USP.

well, about transitions...they can be closed sometimes(it's a bug,of course).last night, after using and closing wayfinder beta(java),the transitions were off, until the next restart,of course. And the menu works so fast without them!

SE has their own developer forum, where you sometimes can see SE representatives. (I've only seen SE Developer Support, but I'm not registered on that forum either...) I guess there's a bigger chance to get your voice heard if you're posting there compared to here, but I agree with you anyway. We'll all benefit from that. I doubt that SE knows much about the more bizarre bugs like the '
duplicated contacts on SIM and in phone' and '
video player volume' issues...

and about se...they have so much to learn! They say the smartest people learn from other people's mistakes.se don't even learn from ttheir own mistakes and to make mathers worse, they eliminate som good things from their phones. The 5 way jog-dial has existed since the sony cmd-j5(year 2000 that is) and nobody has ever complained about it.In fact,it was so good.and they made it a 3 way jog dial now.why did sony ever get into this joint-venture?they had the nicest phones back in 2000(cmd j5,cmd j70),they could have continued.

@find_myself- please let's look at what Discord mentioned. One thing that will lead us nowhere are questions like 'why did Sony merge with Ericsson?'. I personally wish Ericsson didn't merge with Sony cause I feel they were far better in quality and technology, but then where am I heading with this kind of thinking? Right now we have Sony Ericsson not Sony or Ericsson separately. @Discord- that's an excellent suggestion! I really think that what they currently use for feedback is not such a good job.

I was thinking about getting the P990i but then I saw the Nokia N95 and fell in love with it. I heard so many problems with P990i so I'm glad. Although I heard the N series had alot of problems.

Yes, I've seen the bug thread and their representatives. Most of their people were probably asked to give non committal replies anyway.
The purpose of this thread is not to get their attention. I just want to find out what you guys think of the idea. If there's enough response, we may just be able to get something positive started.

I think its far more likely that after all th bad press, SE will be very hard at work on a phone that is not called P990 & i think it wont even start with a "P" because even if they completely sorted it, people would not believe it & wouldnt buy it,a phones reputation is made or broken during the first few months of sales, only a small effort will now be made to sort out the P990 i think the majority of their time will now be spent on the next top end smartphone.
Remember the T68, it was a half finished phone but with the "i" upgrade it became superb.
Anyone who bought P800's will remember they felt like they had been used as guinea-pigs but by buying he p800 it made the P900/P910 possible, we invested in the concept. thats the game we are playing here with SE, its a game i dont mind playing because i dont want to be part of the WM5 thing.
my P990 is a good one, its always worked a treat, i got it half price brand new for reasons beyond me, OK it could be quicker through the menus but it would have to be a lot worse for me to give up on SE smartphones.
