I'm plannign on getting the P990i but I dont exactly understand why everyone hates it and is having so many problems..? What is this new firmware update and has it fixed those problems?

You're on the 3rd incarnation of the Firmware so a lot of the bugs have been ironed out. A P990i with the latest FW is a different beast to the first ones which will be where most of the problems you've read about came from. It's still not perfect but what phone is. I'd say however it's one worth buying. Read the latest firmware thread for info on existing bugs and what has been fixed. The main problem has always been memory management.
