I've been looking at the P990i for ages and have been wanting to retire my W800i and Blackberry 7100v and go for the P990i as the ideal all-in-one device for me.

But I heard how useless the previous firmware versions were for multi-tasking, especially for BB Connect users.

I know that BBC 3.45 works on the new P990i firmware, but how are the multi-tasking capabilities now for users running BBC BES 24/7? What else can you do now with BBC running? How does speed and reliability compare to a RIM device like the 7100v?

Once of the reasons I'm looking to switch to to the P990i i because my company's IT Security Policy for BES has totally locked down my 7100V. I can't install any new apps OTA or via USB. I'm hoping that they won't have the same kind of control over a non-RIM device like the P990i. Can anyone else confirm?

Thanks!

I'd really appreciate some feedback on this topic from those forum regulars who have upgraded to BB Connect 3.45 on the new P990 firmware.

Zulan, Caspa, floatlite, macjasp - Do you recommend this device as an alternative to a BB now?

There is nothing in those threads which answers my questions. I have already looked.

In the new firmware thread some people have said that they have tested BB Connect 3.45 on the new fw and it works, but I'm looking for feedback on real user experiences of BES with BBC 3.45 on the latest fw. Am I on the wrong forum for feedback from business users of the P990i?

havent tried with new fm and BB connect, only with old one and it was completetly hopeless, will never try again, changed to Active Sync, better and almost BB functionality but P990 RAM issues made me change phone anyway so now I'm a happy Samsung SGH-i320 user, P990 with twin card for TomTom.

Remember BB connect didnt sync Calender or Contacts, think contacts and there was AP conflict, it BB connect was used all other 3G was disconnected.

Must say I still miss my Blackberry, a really good email-machine and decent phone.

I currently use BB Connect V3.45 with the P990's latest firmware. And I've owned a Blackberry device before(8700g). With the latest firmware there has been much improvements especially with multi tasking and much less memory leaks so I'm quite happy now that I can surf the web, IM+, and Messaging at once while BB is running. This wasn't possible for me before the update. But still BB Connect takes a lot of ram. I had 15MB of free ram before installing BB Connect. Now I get 11MB of free ram with BB running in the background. I am satisfied with the P990 with Blackberry in general. if You have specific questions let me know.

BB Connect do have wireless calendar push feature. It basically have:
- push mail
- push calendar
- address lookup

size of download attachment is limited to 32k. view attachment is not limited by attachment size.

BB connect has very limited BB features when compared to a BB device.

And v3.45 on latest P990i firmware still leaks memory.

Ive been using the new setup for nearly a week now and there has been a great deal of improvement but its still in need of more...

I am using it still and have not reverted back to my 8700 though, so that does say something...

My main gripe is the speed, not sure if its the UI or BB Connect but its too slow...

It still takes to long to open, reply forward etc... This is magnifide after a days use when messaging keeps closing as you use other programs and therfore has to open AGAIN... which is even slower... Much faster on a Blackberry...

With the complete irradication of RAM leaks and 20mb of RAM on start as per the M600 i think it will be fine as you'll be able to run the main apps concurrently without a problem (messaging, web, calender, contacts, media player)...

The other issues / differences i can live with, eg. Sent items from Desktop do not appear on the P990... For me, these have just meant a slight change in usage and personally i dont see my email on the move in the same light as that from my laptop... i.e. if i need it, i CC myself...

So... overall i would recommend as a Blackberry replacement, just be aware of the above... For me its really the whole package that takes it, as a phone and PDA with BB connectivity its better than the 8700... As I have to wait for my work mobile and Blackberry to become one (use a W800 for voice) due to contract commitments im using the P990 as a BB only, no voice, same as my 8700 was... direct comparison with email use only (didnt use the 8700 for anything but email, no PIM etc...) then the 8700 wins hands down...

Why am i still using the P990 then? Like i said, whole package!

Loving my 4GB card and my DS970 on the tube!
