I have had the p990i for a few months, and I love the phone. I am having a few problems. I can't seem to get 3g working on my phone. I know the phone is a 3g phone, and I do have a 3g card in the phone working, but, when I check the antenna, I still see "GPRS Attached."

Long story short, I want 3g on my p990i, to watch (US) TV on my p990i, and any assistance with Cingular video would help.

Any ideas?

Not on Cingular, no u don't. Sadly, but true. read these posts.

Basically Cingular offers 3G on the 1900 band, whereas the P990i has 3G on 2100 band. Oops. In US, T-Mobile though offers 3G on the 2100 band....

Thanks again, for the quick reply...even though it is bad news. After reading the posts you left, I have another question. Is there another version of the p990a coming to the US? If so I guess I'll have to sell this one...

Any help here would be great...

For sure there will be no "a" version for the P990, as the US SE's web site is:
a) advertising the "i" version
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]emplate=pip1&zone=pp&pid=10336

b) selling the "i" version
http://shopwireless.sonyerics[....]oducts/cat/1002/product/280271

As u can see from this page, not ALL the SE fones have been "a"-ed:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]&ver=4000&template=ph1&zone=ph
I guess u can call it "marketing". Bad one, but still marketing. I wish they made it q true world phone, a quad band...
Who cares bout US, which is the 3-rd world when it comes to tele-communications, as one of the forum members put it....Not SE...

@Scroitoru:

Unfortunately, T-Mobile hasn't launched 3G yet. Additionally, I have heard phones that support the 2100 mhz band overseas will not work with T-Mobile's USA 2100 mhz 3G network and vice-versa Don't quite know the details why but just another example of how behind we are in the mobile networking.

that is really ridiculous. same phone, same band, on the same provider (say T-Mob), and yet 3G reception only possible in one region or another?! wow. bad bad bad.
well i guess it's about money. Providers see no need to spend money on High Speed Networks, when they consider it to be a niche market.
One of the reasons I got the P990 was cos it is a 3G. Now I am back to the 2 G (not even the 2.5 G or EDGE that Cingular touts), and on top of that I am also missing the 850 band from this phone

Last week, as I was driving on most rural areas and I was not able to pick any network, while my son's phone (bought from Cingular), had no issues. And even when I was able to pick some, his had more bars than mine. So I am not sure when ppl say on this forum that the P990 is a PHONE first and then a PDA. That might be true elsewhere, but not in US and on Cingular....
