I am almost certain one could remove the shortcuts (i.e. messages, menu, calendar...) which appear on the homescreen of the P990i. No idea how to do it though? Any clues?

in flip closed mode click 'more' on the right softkey then 'shortcuts' and then uncheck the "show shortcuts' box.i don't think you can delete or change them in flip open mode

The right soft key menu. It also changes, depending in which screen you are. It can be a real treasure.
