You can set the RSS to update manually or scheduled. I have feeds coming from Xbox.com and they update twice a day. I can view them anytime I want and I don't get any data charges.

@atkinsonw: No, it will normally not be free to use RSS due to the fact (data transfer charges) that masseur already stated in an earlier post.

@Norstar: You might not get charged for data transfer if you are on a contract with (limited) free data transfer included. Maybe you are. Are you?
