> P990i startup time
Bookmark topic
Hi all. I've got the new software: Phone: R9EA001 BT: R5A01 Org: R4A13
CDA: R4A09 and I wonder if anyone can explain to me why it is such a huge difference between the startup time depending on if u have the charger connected or not?
When I've got the charger connected it takes about 20 seconds before it is connected with my operator, when it's NOT conected it takes about 90 seconds, why is it so?

Okay i will test this... I bought an M600i (proud of it!) and what I do is switch between flightmode or phone mode instead of switching the whole phone of because it takes like 2 minutes before it starts up.

okay i tested it... if you switch off you phone (or it shuts down because of low battery) and you switch on your phone, there are 2 stages of powering on the phone. First the os boots and then you can choose for flight mode of phone mode, only after that the os continues booting. If your phone is off and you attach the charger, the os will boot and you get a screen which displays the status of the battery charging. If you now swich on your phone, the boot is much quicker, because parts of the os are already loaded in the memory.

Well, switching between flightmode and phone mode instead of switching the whole phone doesn't really answer the Q, but anyway, from phonemode to flightmode and back to phone mode took about 15 seconds for me.
But as the original Q was, why is it such a HUGE difference between start up time, charger / without charger?
*edit* Aha, I was writing my A at the same time you wrote yours, thx 4 explaining it to me!

you're welcome

I just assume the P990 and M600 are equally about these issues

when u put the phone on charge u notice that the phone does partially come on. hence when u do fire it up it has less to load up into memory??

Yes, when u put the phone on charge u notice that the phone does partially come on, that seems to be the answer to my Q.
But is it this issue that seems to be the problem with that the display is lit when u charge the phone in off mode?
If find that one rather annoying, why can't the display be dark in off mode when charging since it is so whilst charging when it is in on mode.
@Dragonfly: Do u have the same issue with your M600i?

It might just be as simple as the cpu running at full speed with the charger connected, and lower speed without the charger.

that could be it, but why run cpu on low speed on a device that will be disconnected from the charger 99% of it's usage time? Makes no sense to me...

The cpu will be in sleep mode for 99% of the time - otherwise the battery life would be even worse than it is now. It's possible to scale the performance down and improve battery life, reserving full power for things like video calling and movie playback - most of the time, even when you're using the phone, it's not being pushed to the limits it needs for some functions. (I have no idea how advanced the power management is on the p990, but there will be some!)
