Camera preview error? Sounds like the dreaded ribbon cable! It could just need the connector on the mainboard taking out and both the ribbon and the PCB connector cleaning and that might fix it. If you see any rips, tears or nicks in the ribbon, no matter how small, sadly it will probably need replacing.
And Samsungs are a bugger to take apart! It's not too hard, just a pain!

lol you sound like you've done that type of thing before
I ran a search after I made the post and found some other people going on about it too looks like it is the ribbon,
I can't open the bloomin phone my tools int the right size unfortunatley,
looked up replacement ribbons tho and there £2.99 delivered
dunno what to do bout this phone

You could have a go at replacing the ribbon, or I could have a go for you if you like!
It's the most probably culprit, as I say it could just need a clean rather than replacement, you never know!

I'll second that
i took an e800 apart last night to try to get it working again after i took it apart a couple of weeks ago and managed to get the flex to click in but it only lights up the bottom part of the phone when the charger is inserted

I hate it when someone's obviously had a go at opening something with the wrong tools and ground the head off the screw!

Got a V3 today which someone had tried to do that, luckily there's enough of the head left to unscrew/screw them back up.
Sounds like you could do with finding some replacement screws from somewhere too, and that ribbon does need replacing by the sounds of it.

Ive got some torx screws im gunna screw them in cos the philips screws are finished
ive damaged some of the holes where they screw in getting the phone open cos of some idiot opening it previousley...
just waiting for the cable to arrive so I can try and get it working again,
wasn't hard opening it.. it just opens if your careful with the clips
my moms taken a liken to the phone,
it's ok... not like the fact that T9 has to be turned of everytime you send a text message tho
