maybe best pic works better with a mechanical shutter ie: so the cmos sensor doesn't have to power up between pics?

i've seen the mechanical shutter close a few times, most of the time when using the flash. i would have thought it's used to limit the ammount of light in to the sensor when using the flash. try covering the light sensor when focusing to activate the flash in daylight, then look at the shutter to see if it closes when you take the picture?
