i just dropped my 2-day-old w810 onto cement today, managed to take a chip out of the bottom right corner, and scratch the d-pad. i am so totally bummed out, I absolutely hate when you drop your phone for the first time... it really does hurt.

any stories or wise words to ease the pain for me, and countless others like me?

Yup man! we love our mobiles, we are emotionally attached to them, that's why we are here in esato.
I remember the day when i dropped my beloved K750 down the stairs...it went like a rolling stone all the way from the 1st floor to the ground floor. Luckily, it suffered nothing more than a bruised body - talk of sony ericsson build quality! Just imagine had it been a nokia!!!!
Recently I dropped my 2nd phone - a Sony Z7 and it was shattered into numerous pieces- and it took me less than 2 minutes to put it back into a perfectly good running phone!!!
Sony/Ericsson/SE - ROCKS! (Pun intended!)

you can change the housing if it was a nasty fall

I perfectly understand. I've dropped each and everyone of my SE phones the first week owning them. If it works fine and just looks terribly awful, change the housing and enjoy a pristine phone again. Good luck!

i wonder if cnn.cn sells the d-pad for w810... it took the brunt of the impact, despite the phone sliding a meter across concrete, on its face

2 tiny nicks on the screen, so all good... will be checking...

I'm with you when it comes to being upset about knocks and scratches and though I don't do it very often, I really hate it when it does happen
also, somehow, even changing the housing to a new one doesn't bring back its newness for me 'coz I know its not as it was originally.
perhaps we have some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder?

@masseur: I was gonna say that, but i was afraid i would be considered weird, even here in Esato
Ok, keypad for w810 in white : $5.99 us, shipping : $5 us lol. i may wait until i further destroy the phone, and I can justify another item or two

1. P990
Dropped my P990 from pocket, it jumped out from Capdase book type leather case and now it has a minor scratch that looks like a little "dot" in back-top-left side, near the stylus. Still not covered even now I'm using Capdase's soft jacket.
2. K610
The upper front top side of my Evening Red K610, in a red part case, has a "dot" like scratch too, thanks to the f**kin crystal case

. Now awaiting white silicone case from ebay.
Huh. Think I need 2 new housings.

@masseur, dumbrella, I totally agree with the both of you. Even if I were to get a replacement housing from the official SE service centre, I'd still be unhappy, knowing it's not the same phone it was. So yep, it's probably a form of obsessive compulsive disorder as masseur suggested. However, I've only ever dropped one of my mobile phones once, and it wasn't even my fault. Wasn't from a very high place, but it hurt me enough, haha...
