im looking to buy a hbh-ds970 for my new w950i...For those w950i owners on here who use/have used the headset with their phone, is it worth it??? Or am i wasting money?

The hpm-82's seem good anough at the moment, but dont seem very diffent in quality compared to hpm-70. How are the hbh-ds970 paired with the w950i compared to using the hpm-82's? Things like volume, quality, bass etc....

Ive also got a set of Panasonic hje-70's which are also pretty good, but im up for a change....

fellow w950i owners please help me out.

thank you

***attention mods*** Ive posted this in symbian section rather than accessories section as im trying to target w950' owners only. And i thought some owners 'may' not have seen this thread in accessories if i posted there. Please feel free to move there though if you think this doesnt really belong here....

@jedi-master
the HBH-DS970 is superb. Better than most wired headsets. IMHO only bettered by the Etymotic ER-6i

The only drawback i find is that it cant be used in flight mode! i think se should develop software for the phone to have 3 modes Phone/Flight/Music the later still enabling you to use bluetooth but without phone functions!

Other than that absolutely brill, no problems what so ever!

Bluetooth is disabled in flight mode because it's a radio transmitter, so 'music mode' is unlikely to be a possibility. I can't see aviation authorities allowing it on airlines.

I find my HBH-DS970 headphones work extremely well with my w950i. Good sound, and easy to control, too.

what i think they should have done was add a 3.5mm plug to the bottom of the headset so you can get an adapter to use it with a non-bt device. Or to use it during flights by plugging it into your phone

I just got my 970 and i love it. too bad there isn't a white one to go with my white m600

thanks all...

@jah,
i take it by that you also mean its better than the hpm-82 which are included? Quality is the most important for me, then comes volume close behind. Hows the volume, as i find the hpm-82 to be a little to soft...

Gone are the days of the w800/k750 volume, but of course w950 quality is much better

@jedi-master

Best volume is with the wired Etymotic ER-6i

With all wired and wireless SE head phones the volume seems similar. And yes the HBH-DS970 are better then the standard SE headphones that come with the W950. Please note that the encoding also makes a difference to volume. I use DbPowerAmp converter not WMP10/11 at 192kbps and the volume is good. Also quality is better with AAC at 128kbps even compared with MP3 encoded at 192 kbps.

thanks Jah... at the moment im using Disc 2 Phone and using 128kbps. So you recommend using 192kbps to increase volume? And is disc to phone fine for converting, or should i use another program and convert to 128 and aac?

Quality is fine for me at the moment using Disc 2 Phone, but id like volume to be a little louder. What bit rate and file do you recommend i use to get the loudest volume possible whilst keeping decent quality?

And i think i will now purchase one of these hbh-ds970's....I need a change from my Panasonic hje-70's and the hpm-82's

cheers

Quality is great, bass is great, volume could be a bit louder but it's generally good enough for London's tube.

Video playback is sketchy, as the sound skips every now and then and I can't watch video with it. Occasionally an issue playing music across, as even when the two are linked, the walkman sometimes plays music via the phone. Odd.

My cheapish sennheiser headphones sound better but then I have the hassle of the extra wires.
