i recently damaged my w950i. it fell out of my pocket while getting out of my car, and the screen cracked.
i took it into the voda shop to arrange replacing the screen on my insruance. courtesy phone was given to my, and mine was sent off. i was told it should take 5 days to replace the screen, but then the guy told me it would actually be 9 days. i was told to go back to the shop after 1pm on te 9th day to collect my handest and return the loan phone.
so, 1:30pm on day 9 i went into the shop and asked for my phone back. the girl entered the details, and informed me that the handset had been sent to SE on day 7! she was unable to tell me how much longer i would have to wait for my phone, but i would be able to contact the repair centre via voda customer services.
phoned customer services, and asked to be transferred to the repair centre. instead i was transferred to the logistics department (useless as they only ship the handsets and dont fix them). eventually i got a number for the repair centre, so gave them a ring. this is where it gets quite a lot worse. gave job details and was told that my phone is still there, hasnt been sent to SE. the problem was, that as it is a relatively 'new' model they dont have the parts (a new lcd screen) that were needed to fix my phone. sorry, you are a phone repair company and dont have phone parts?!?! the girl had a look at some info, and then told me that the guys in the workshop area had only just realised earlier that the phone is extremely similar to another phone. that would be the m600 then? she was like yeah, thats it. **** me. you people work with phones day in, day out and it has taken you 8 days to realise that the w950 and m600 are almost exactly identical phones?? oh dear!
anyway, it should be back with me on monday, 13 days after sending it away. if i had of known this i would of just paid someone £40 for a new screen rather than bothering with all this insurance malarky (which has cost me £25 excess anyway!!).
just needed to get that off my chest.

@dngrousmouse, either goto the shop you sent it away at or contact customer services. You can easily get the money back for the excess. I've dealt wioth this same issue before in store regarding a messed up insurance claim and have at least given the excess fee for free!!

sainty, how would i go about doing that. i did have a bit of a complain (about other things while i was in theh shop and the girl just kept apologising to me. i DONT want apologies, i just want my phone. instead i am stuck with this piece of **** sharp gx-17. (this is such a bad phone btw).
would i be best to write a letter to voda, as there are a couple of other issues i have to raise with them? namely, visiting the shop at 3:55pm on a sunday, to find it locked up, and having to have a conversation through a locked door. when in their window it clearly says they are open till 4:30pm!!

Yeah sending a letter in is maybe the best idea. Otherwise if you feel upto it, speak to the manager of the store? Say you think your insurance claim handling is very bad and are not happy. Keep at it untill he/she offers some kind of compensation

good luck

just another quick one to throw into the mix.
when i upgraded, i was offered 3 months free insurance and was told there after it would be cheaper than my previous insurance cost. this is because voda have changed insurance companies. i dont actually remember seeing/reading anything that mentioned anything about a £25 excess. would i have been supplied with any information that states there is a £25 excess fee if i make an insurance claim?

If there is an excess to pay then it should be either on the document you received stating your insurance details or in the terms and conditions which you should have recived when you received the phone.

I recently cancelled my insurance with Voda...
at nearly £7 a month, it's more than I pay for life insurance...
and I didn't know about the £25 excess either.. just not worth it.

I'll think you find that on any insurance you have to pay an excess of some kind. But yes it is £25 (or £100 on the very expensive phones) on all insurance claims with Vodafone.

All hpone companies charge a fee for their insurance if the phone was damaged by the user. On orange it is 15 on voda 25. If the phone is faulty it gets replace free.
The 15 for orange is basically an admin and delivery fee.
HOWEVER!!
I would hasten to add that on Orange, if the phone had been damaged this way, screen, then the handset would have been replaced NEXT DAY, at a cost of 15 on the next bill.
That is why you pay insurance, in case shit happens. It should NOT have been sent for repair, thats what happens under warranty, not insurance. If I was paying 7 a month for insurance, (Orange is now just gone up to 6) and they didn't offer me a replacement, and I had to wait a fortnight, and they charged me 25 for the pleasure, HEADS WOULD ROLL.
Another example of why NOT to use vodafone. Orange aint perfect but jees, the deals are better, for starters, and it would appear the insurance terms are lightyears ahead of Voda's.
I think this is a DISGRACE and I would be wanting heavily compensated for the inconvenience, I feel some free bundles coming on lol.
