All I can say is, watch this, you can ff to 3 min into the clip.
That clip is from Feb 2006 (look) here.

Also watch this clip.
Now all you that think tha Apple is sooo innovative and thinks that this technique was invented by Apple, think again...

There is NOTHiNG new in the iPhone that's never done before.

Just wanted to put this out b/c I'm tired of people talking about how innovative the iphones multi-touch display is...

Anyway it's a really cool videos.
[Edit: spelling :]

lol you sound bitter...

if apple is bringing this technology into the cellphone and they're the first to do so then it is an innovation in the cellphone world...

one of the biggest reasons people love se so much was because will believe they are constantly bringing innovative products to the market....

And Mr Han's technology is already present in a retail publicly available or announced financially accessible product today before Apple's offering, right?

I think this looks nice, but I personally don't like its touch screen (because the scratchs on it).

Whether Apple invented it or not (they didn't, and haven't claimed that they did either), the iPhones multi-touch display is innovative.

Name another product on the market, of any type, or in a similar price range, that has such a touch display like the iPhone.

Multi-touch gestural interfaces have been hanging around in the laboratory, screaming for release, for decades. Apple didn’t invent the concept of the multi-touch interface. They’ve just, by all evidence, built the first one that is (relatively) inexpensive, attractive, and accessible.

The innovation comes in bringing it to market, in a useable way.

I do agree with jools, it's an inevitable conclusion, though I'm not a fan of the ipod nor the iphone. I have my reasons, one of them being the proprietary nature of apple products. For example, the fact my sister bought an ipod shuffle for my niece to play in her mp3 player compatible stereo (has a usb port), and it doesn't work, where any much cheaper 3rd party mp3 player would work fine.

For example the application platform on the iphone is completely closed. There is no cross platform JAVA, and the os is more closed even than symbian, application development will only go through Apple. People have claimed on these boards that P990 was going to be a flop because it was going to have poor application support at it's release. Well iphone effectively won't have broad-based application support at all, meaning you won't be able to call it a smartphone in the traditional sense of the word. Multimedia phone, Internet Terminal, Personal Organiser, but NOT smartphone.

Yes, the touch screen is innovative, but that's it. On the overall balance, the iphone is not innovative imho.

but at the same time... if there's a desire to hack the iphone it will be hacked with ease since it's a unix core...

not an ipod user but i do use a macbook... and the first party apps are topnotch in a sense that you don't need to find an alternative.. but if an alternative is needed the community will make one..
