Hey!
I've seen alot of programs that can send an sms to a predefined number when the simcard is replaced, thats great, but i've only been able to find it for nokia s60 or older UIQ versions and not for UIQ3.
Q: Is there such an app? Preferably free

What good is that, it going to send you an SMS mess to tell you what you already know that your phone been stolen

Yes, and you do get the number of the person who stole it

As Tail said, you do get the number from the person who has (or even stole) your phone, meaning you can look up that number, get the guy's name and address and go retrieve your phone (and perhaps punish the guy in an appropriate way)
So, no such thing for uiq3? :\\ that's a shame

Ever heard about the police? How about giving this number to them and/or the phone operator!

Don't know how it works in the UK but here in Belgium without your SIM (which was stolen with your phone) there is no way to read your sms ?
So what's the point of getting an sms if you can't have access to it ?
Or is it maybe that you enter someone else mobile number (like your wife's one for example) in that application in case the phone will be stolen ?
If it's like in this last case then the sw is worse to buy, otherwise not.

Well, in some countries, all simcards have to be registered, including pre-paid ones, norway for example (you have 2 have an ID when you buy the card..) This does however not include my country(sweden)

If you by reverse lookup mean locating the name of the owner with only a phonenumber at hand, then yes! Why shouldn't that be possible? Just punch in the number and voila! If it's registered, it'll show up, even on a map!

Yes! And the police will be the first to get the number from me, but likely they'll just ignore it, but the chance of me getting my phone back gets bigger the more data i can give to the cops.
And let's say the number isn't registered (I dunno what's most likely, the thief himself wouldn't probably use a registered one, but if the phone gets sold to a third person, which would seem not entirely unlikely, that person might have an registered or contract simcard)
But back to the unregistered thesis;
[This part is just theoretical] Wait a while after the phone's been jacked, call the person and pretend your someone else, say your a phonesalesman (telemarketing-terrorist) and make him an offer he can't deny, thus somehow retrieving his name.
Im not saying this'll definitely work, but it'll surely maximize my chances of getting the phone back given that: A - the police might be able to trace the number. Or B - I will personally be able to somehow retrieve at least the name of the new "owner" and then pass it on to the police.
It might seem far-fetched but i still think it's better than sitting on your a*s thinking about what a lovely time the new owner must have with your prrreeecioussss
And, finally given the fact that there is such an app for s60, at least someone else must have thought the same thoughts that i have.
