Having replaced my aged and scratched p900i with a fresher model from eBay, I'm wondering about transferring all the junk I have on the old phone to the new one.
Would this scenario work? I back up the phone and memory stick, switch the SIM and memory stick to the new one and then do a restore. Would that leave me with a mirror image of the original?
If not, can anyone recommend a quick way to transfer data, applications, etc?

in general, yes that will work.
where you might come unstuck is with purchased software which is generally locked to the phones IMEI and in this case you'll need to contact the vendor of the software to request a new key based on the new IMEI (and I'll wish you very good luck with that one!

Thanks for that, masseur.
The only purchased SW I have is Wayfinder, which expires soon anyway, and which I plan to replace with Nav4all.

It isn't just scratched, there's a chip at the edge of the screen - it's been very well-used in the three years I've had it.
As for changing the housing, my fingers are like hams when it comes to anything fiddly, I'd probably lose half the innards!
