> Researchers Sue Phone Makers Over Bluetooth
Bookmark topic
The Washington Research Foundation is suing Nokia, Panasonic and Samsung for patent violations. The foundation represents researchers from universities in Washington State, one of whom filed a patent on high-frequency broadband tuning methods in 1999. The researcher and the foundation believe this method is used in Bluetooth.
However the Bluetooth spec was developed in the mid-1990s and solidified in 1998, before the patent was filed. Despite a possible prior art defense, American chip maker Broadcom has licensed the technology from the Washington Research Foundation. Chipmaker CSR, whose Bluetooth chips are in Nokia, Panasonic and Samsung devices has not licensed the patent.

I thought that Bluetooth was developed by Ericsson a long time ago.
The name (Bluetooth) is even related to a Viking king... How can those researchers claim the Bluettoth patent!?!?!?

Yeh, I saw something on The Gadget Show a while back about bluetooth. The bluetooth name is taken from a Viking king nicknamed bluetooth as his teeth were stained blue through his love for blueberries.
