In advance sorry for the long post but stick with me for a moment, please.

I know you all might not take this too seriously because it’s my first post and the whole issue of people misusing or even abusing the forum. In my defense I will say that I’ve been a daily viewer for more then 3 years, also did register a few times but always managed to loose account details.

So without further intros I will share my idea:
My plan is not to try and earn my way up to the 8800 but to try and put one together. It is possible to get part by part the whole phone. The parts consist of:

Casing- Front Glass Screen protector, front keyboard cover, rear Battery Cover.

Mechanical Parts- Sliding mechanism (front half and rear) along with the phone operating core, keypad core, keypad, Screen along with connecting tape.

I have recently acquired, as my backup phone to my z600i, a used 8800 Nokia phone and have been buying up parts to get it into better shape. Thus far I have managed to get the new keypad core and a new opening mechanism, just the LCD screen and protecting glass, and the opening mechanism. Today I was just about to install all this together when the thought of building one from scratch came to mind.
To economize I would buy the other parts perhaps some second hand.

Anyways please post back some opinions on my plan is it even doable or am I just thinking loony.

Note: As I am not sure if posting links to auctions is consistent with etiquette I will not post links to online auctions of the core products. If I am corrected I will update my post with links to parts.

well if you want it from scratch, you'll need to get the mainboard and software, wich I don't think people sell just like that, also you would need to be very carefull ataching the ribbons to the LCD, or the camera.

It's not imposible, but pretty tough. I think you'd better be off with a second hand 8800 anyway

cheers

Thanks for the reply mcrosser and with regards to your post id like to further clarify: I do have a 8800 already and planned to use the parts to fix it up. With regards to the main board and software, I have seen on auctions people selling them. At this momment there are none available in poland, but usually within two weeks there is one available.

Well it depends on which one. The silver one will set you back some 310 quid. The sirrocco will set you back 470 quid without dealer warranty. Add some 50 quid surplus for the versions with Nokia Poland Warranty. Anyways if you want cheaper phones my folks live in United Arab Emirates and there these things go for dirt cheap.
Anyways sidetracking back to the subject i spoke with a friendly phone repair person and he said if i get him the parts he will put this thing together for me. I will keep you posted on the details if only i manage to get my hands on a motherboard.
