I think it might have something to do with the widescreen video settings, put it to crop 16:9 to 4:3.

You shoud set the "Widescreen video" to "Add letterbox to 16:9 to fit 4:3".
You'll get black bars, but you will get the whole video.

Remove letterbox..... is the better option. I encode DVD movies on regular basis and with the above option I get a movie on the full screen, no black frame.

If you have a anamorphic widescreen DVD and you choose to remove letterbox, then you'll get a resulting video with the wrong aspect ratio, since there is no letterbox to be removed.

But if you like it, then who am I to speak...
