I'm having a grumble, an thats puttin in extremely politely! I got a S.E. K800i from ebay about 3 months ago, 1st the camera shutter button went U/S and today I turned it off... As is recomended by S.E. as a daily thing just to clear junk in the phone memory, but now the f****** thing won't switch back on.

I thought "I Know" I'll do the S.E. update via the PC, and now that won't belive me that there's a phone on the other end of my USB lead. The charger don't seem to care either. I've been looking for a little hole to poke somthing into, I mean find a reset button to tickle with a paperclip, but to no avail!

Bar immersing it in bioling chip fat and publishing it on U-tube, has anybody got any ideas on giving this.. this.. this.. errrr... paperweight a 2nd lease of life?

Cheers for any ideas,
Nige.

There are a few threads already about dead K800i's (mine did the same and is away being repaired now). If you have a warrenty then go and get it sorted. As far as I am aware there is no fix you can do at home but I may be wrong.

I've bought many phones off ebay and never had a problem

but I guess that doesn't help here.

I'd still try the service centre approach as K800 is still less than a year since release its possible you won't get asked for proof of purchase. my phones are always less than a year old, of course!, and the few times I have been to a service centre I have never been asked

worth a try anyway...

Hm, no red led flashing at all? You did install USB flash driver right?

OK, here is some suggestion. Took the batt off for longer period (24hr). Get kulan client and use kulan/kulan as login password. Choose update EROM and press flash. Now put batt back (preferably fully charge/borrow same batt type) and push button 2 and 5 on your phone together then plug the USB cable. and see if kulan client recognised it. You may try with other client (wotan/DVT)

Now if this doesn't work and kulan client can't recognised your phone, try this as last resort (SE doesn't want to provide service and you are desperate). Open up your phone and short the internal batt for few sec. Then try it again. Someone in other forum said it will solve it (at least the phone will be reccognised by kulan client again so you can try to update EROM again). I have no idea if this work but seems that kulan said that it might work. I am not responsible for anything if you decide to try it.

Open up K800:

If after shorting batt the phone can turn on without further work, it is still advisable to update EROM anyway (before upgrading firmware) as I suspect your EROM ver is R3A011. It will died again in the future if you don't.

I think c3 in this forum also has similar problem. If he read this thread then he might help you if he already got if fixed.
When kulan/wotan/DVT client recognized your phone then it is 99% fixable. I already help few ppl reviving their dead k800. The problem is if client and window can't detect your phone. Someone claim this can be solved by shorting internal batt.
I still think that if SE can repair your phone with reasonable price then it is best to let them fix it. But sometime they quote unreasonable price and it is better to try the last resort.

Edit, I think one possible reason that phone can not be recognized is that the batt is very low on power. I have no idea whether the phone will charge in the batt in your condition. So if you got fully charge batt to try then it is better!

Last time mine died was shortly before christmas, I just took it to my local service centre and had them put it right so I would assume they also updated the erom.

Well it did it again tonight so I tried something:

Instead of opening it up though I removed the battery used a metal object to short the internal battery connectors of the phone (NOT THE BATTERY ITSELF)

Since you are in England they should update your EROM. Can you check it again your EROM version for us? In other part of the world I doubt that they will ever touch EROM. Some authorised service centre even claim they don't know what EROM is.

Well, if it has similar result then it is very good. There are three connector on the phone body right? So which connectors do you short?
