Hi again guys...

Well its been a good while now since the k800i/k790 were released, and i was wanting to bring forth an argument from the past....

The fact that SE claimed the slider on the k800i would be less liable to slide open whilst in your pocket than the k750i.

I am wanting to conduct a survey in this thread just to see what you users think about this now that you have months practical use under your belts

Simply leave a reply as to what you think of the new sliding direction (sideways rather than downwards) - wether it is better or not? - and any suggestions for improving the mechanism.

Ill start you off....

In my own experience, the k800's slider opens alot more frequently in my pocket than that of the k750, although i am not completely sure if it is down to the direction of the slide, or the fact it sticks out from the body of the phone alot more.

A suggestion for improving this would be to keep the slide going sideways, but build the mechanism into the phone more, like in the k750 where the sliding component met a static component when fully shut like so...

'''''''''''''//______

continue your opinions please...

maybe you have a phone with a soft slider and the spring is not working properly why dont you take it back and return it. Ive come across a few k800i's and one of the shutters were soft it really annoyed me so i got rid of it.

well my k800 slides open quite a lot because once in the pocket the phone tends to shift to a paralel position towords the ground and keeps geting half slid open ...

i would really love it if the k800 would have a opening mecanism similar to the w800's ... that one was really sweet, didn't open in the pocket and gave quite a nice feeling when u opened it

Personally i think the slide was ok i never had any problems with it though it opened in my pocket a few times. But it does stick out too much and while its ok on a digital camera it does not bode well on a phone. I think SonyEricsson should do the same slide design as Nokia N73 where it slides across but does not stick out in any way. Its much more practical. Are you listening SE.

I think Se will keep to the cybershot slider design with what the phone design is based on, a cyberhot phone. Most of the expensive cybershot range digi cameras have this slider mechanism although there are few with designs like the s700i. They wouldnt wanna base on a design like that again as they have been there before. I am quite happy with the cybershot branding as it brings good retail therapy.

Yes of course they should keep the Cyber Shot branding i think its cool but that slide i have read in Digital Camera Buyer magazine that people have had problems with their stand alone Cyber Shot cameras with the slide cover opening in the pocket so obviously its just the design that need tweaking or making it more robust but keep the branding.

ah, its good to see that plenty of others find the slide opens more frequently on the k800.

I am sure they will have to tweak it for the next cybershot high end (sofia?)
It reeli does stick out far too much and is not robust enough to stay shut. im worried my lense is going to get broken as the shutter simply doesent protect half the time!
