ok i know ill get a bit of flak for this but ill say it nonetheless -i think uiq3 is not properly comprehended by most users of the former uiq 2 users -what most expected was an innovative approach ,but what we got was rather a revolutionary one meaning most old dogs wont appreciate this rather new interface.Personally i initially felt it was a waste of my hard earned dough ....now having had it for a couple of month i think this thing with a few hardware upgrade has the potential to be the best thingy out there

@Tindo
I agree with you. I liked UIQ3 from the very first day and I am P series lover. SE have to fix memory issues and many will immediately forget about UIQ2.

I think when most people complained about the UIQ3, they aren't really talking about the design of UIQ3 but rather the implementation of it in the P990i. I am sure that if the P990i were to have double or triple the ram it has now, now users will be happy (of coz, provided that the obvious bugs are fixed, which I am sure they will be)

But from a practical point of view, it would be much better if UIQ3 can run well with limited resources. I guess is this very similar to MS Vista. Most machines out there now would have to be upgraded in order to run it. Wouldn't it be much better if Microsoft found a way to squeeze the OS so that it will run just as well on "older" machines?

Hi all,
I think the problems with UIQ3 are actually much simpler than you would imagine, basically the problems mainly stem from the devices being released on the market too early. Which considering they spent so much time in development and were delayed for so long especially in the case of the P990 is hard to understand.

Can you imagine if they had shipped as they are now which while still far from perfect would of had most users happy with what they got with the promise of new firmware and improvements to follow. As a marketing exercise SE screwed up big time as many long time users really felt let down and added to this the wall of silence from SE didn't help matters either. There are still many that are less than happy but at this stage at least people have functioning devices that work reasonably well if not perfectly.

Unfortunately many once loyal fans and users have turned thier backs on UIQ3 and SE and sought other devices me included. A lot of these users have also vowed never to buy SE products again and some will but will never trust SE enough to be early adopters once bitten twice shy. The drop in price and the fact the P990 managed to gain the honor of the highest return rate of any SE device whilst being it's flagship model is really bad. Even now a Generic Sim free model struggles to sell for £250 which kind of sucks for people who less than 6 months ago were paying over £400 and closer to £500.

From a personal perspective i still can not understand who at SE actually saw fit to release the devices as they were, this i really find alarming. If they had given/lent 100 devices to people that are active SE supporters and experienced UIQ users they could of developed and released a product to be proud of instead of the fiasco that followed the release and so much bad press for SE. All of this is only my opinion but i do think the reports of the death of UIQ3 were some what premature.

Marc

Very true IMO. I suppose they were too self confident to even think about possible bad reaction of the users. But hopefully they learned a lesson. Regret can't help but doing all in their power to fix what's broken. According to the last fw they are on the right path IMO cause my P990 (together with smp and tp) makes me so happy.

In reality I suspect that it cmes down to business/market pressure.

E.g. As a bussines they would of had a project development plan and timescale which at the end of the day is what drives them as a company. if the Engineering developement of a product is not on schedule then the overriding issue is to deliver, based on the need to meet finiacial targets.
The 'odd' few problems have very little effect on holding off any delivery programme where manuafcturing is keyed too.

Just my thoughts.......
