Hello,
Is that possible to make some changes in firmware which will allow k750i to play 220x176 movies in fullscreen mode...?! It's a great shame for now the limits are 176x144.. in fullscr it looks really crappy.. any ideas?

greets
P

Im afraid it cannot. coz limitation by 3gp format standarization. the available res for 3gp: 176x144 & 352x288
for mp4: 176x144, 320x240, 352x288, 480x320 & 640x480
but unfortunately k750i only support 176x144. while newer model support up to 352x288

it's so strange that we can do almost everything with that phone.. and nothing can be done with that issue..
well, I just have to wait for k800 than... for now it's still quite expensive..

cheers

hello,

it might however be possible to play these media fullscreen, just like the 'sony demo' proggy does - as long as you maintain the file in phone memory (so that limits it's size somewhat) and name it 'Demo Tour' and put it into 'Videos' folder. Just run the Demo Tour program later from 'Entertainment', i'd reckon it only checks for a file name and location (as long as it's in the phone memory it ought work fine).

This isn't tested (yet ) but it might just work - at least it will remove the nasty black crops from the film you're about to watch, another thing is the proggy just might also be able to scale films down a notch, hence 352x288 films could look a lot better then (well, look at all actually, since I tried uploading one like that, the phone would register it as video, but it was unable to show it on it's screen).

Cheers!

Edit:

Ok, so as I suspected the app is simple enough (and/or cool enough with its' simplicity) to play any file named Demo Tour.mp4 as long as it's placed inside 'Videos' in phone memory and it's possible to play it by the phone's codecs, so video encoded with either mpeg4 or h263 (3gp) and either aac or amr_nb audio (tho not tested with aac, it would seem logical it works, since the original file is coded aac, comparison between files below).

There is not a possibility of scaling the films down unfortunately, and since only h263p (plus) is capable of encoding with different sizes (like say 176x220 which is the k750i's resolution) even tho the movie is playable on my pc, it won't show up on the phone.

Here go the data:

Encoding a xvid file into my file...

Input #0, avi, from 'xxx.avi':
Duration: 00:01:06.8, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 1143 kb/s
Stream #0.0: Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 512x368, 29.98 fps(r)
Stream #0.1: Audio: mp3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 112 kb/s
Output #0, 3gp, to 'xxx.3gp':
Stream #0.0: Video: h263, yuv420p, 176x144, q=2-31, 200 kb/s, 25.00 fps(c)
Stream #0.1: Audio: amr_nb, 8000 Hz, mono, 32 kb/s

And my file vs original SE 'Demo Tour.mp4'

Original:
Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from 'Demo Toura.mp4':
Duration: 00:01:16.9, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 217 kb/s
Stream #0.0(eng): Audio: aac, 32000 Hz, stereo
Stream #0.1(eng): Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 176x144, 15.00 fps(r)

Mine:
Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from 'Demo Tour.mp4':
Duration: 00:01:06.9, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 236 kb/s
Stream #0.0(und): Video: h263, yuv420p, 176x144, 25.00 fps(r)
Stream #0.1(und): Audio: amr_nb, 8000 Hz, mono

Cheers! and happy testing

ps. it's not that much of a gain anyway tbh, the films show slight pixelazation on fullscreen and the battery prolly gets munched up quicker as well due to higher screen usage, so it's all mostly just for the jokes. enjoy nonetheless

v630 can even play 320x240 mp4 files, and the screen is allmost the same as k750/w800 so it should be possible to make it play higher resolution video.on my w810 if i try to play any video other than 176x144 it just shows a dark brown screen but the audio works fine, you can hear the movie

As I said before, it's a matter of scaling down the video - an external java media player might be well capable of doing so - it's not too hard prolly (I'm not a java dev so then again I can't be certain, but the codecs are there so it's hardly rocket science to make use of them ) and the 'Demo Tour' app proves that scaling is well in the phone's range of abilities.

I do get the same as you mentioned with higher res, both thru my little 'hack' and thru normal media player.

Cheers

tell me a phone that support 352*288 video playback.
to play a 352*288 video YOU NEED A 352*288 SCREEN, otherwise, it will be SCALED!!!

btw, .mp4 supports any resolution, including 320*136

scaling down is not (ought not be) a problem; scaling up causes pixelization and nastiness we'd all rather avoid,

cheers.
