Hi guys,

Theres so much discussion on TomTom around here and other boards, but I'm yet to reach full confidence that I have the right understanding. Please would someone kindly confirm for me?

To get TomTom running on my P990i, I will need TomTom Navigator 6 + GB Maps and a GPS receiver? Is that totally correct?

Many thanks!

i answered this question on another forum a couple of weeks ago.

Unfortunately, tomtom is only compatible with the P910

@frontman: you're right, but don't forget a memorystick to install the maps on, unless you use a W950 (it has enough internal memory): http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=126696

@gaming_guy: since the release of TT navigator 6 it's available for P990, M600 and W950 (a couple of months now). TT site doesn't mention all supported devices.

No, tomtom works fine for P990i, there just isn't any official support for it (it's not mentioned on tomtom.com)

The one you need is the "tomtom uiq3 v6.020" (the ones for symbian s60 won't work)

However the tomtom for uiq3 is on the tomtom 6 DVD but NOT on the bundled memorycard, so you need to get the DVD.

As for maps, you can buy them online on tomtom homepage, there isn't any difference between models so all maps should work (for version 6.xxx)

Any GPS unit would do the trick, i use a Globalsat with sirfstarIII

Thanks guys, there were a good few points cleared up there.

Thanks also for the receiver recommendation. I was wondering if you, or anyone else, may be able to suggest a more affordable reveicer though, didnt really want to spend that much on one? I found the one you recommended for about £100.

Cheers!

eBay is the best place for BT receivers. I think they are about £40 or less these days

Hi frontman
Myself and a few others are more than happy with the HOLOX BT-321 which i believe can now be bought for around £30ish now. This is an excellent receiver that uses the more advanced RFMD chip that is able to work indoors and has quick acquisition times plus a 100hr battery life and a Mini USB connector so can be charged with a Motorola V3 charger in car.
