I've paired these devices, but can't get any sound aout of the headphones. When I choose to transfer sound I get the error message "could not connect to HBH-DS970" even though they are connected???
I've tried search but the facility is so hit and miss that I couldn't find anything.

Have you tried the checkbox "enable as sound device"?
It's located in the screen when you click the headset in bluetooth devices.

Yep,
I've actually managed to connect now. I had to turn the phone off and on again.
