Windows Mobile 5 currently comes in three flavors: Pocket PC edition (for non-smartphone hadhelds), Phone edition (for smartphones with touchscreens), and Smartphone edition (for phones without touchscreens).

ESATO NEWS

This is all very confusing, because on top of all the features your phone might support, you must determine which flavor of the OS it’s running to make sure any applications you download will work.

Crossbow, however, aims to fix this. Crossbow is Windows Mobile 6, and instead of the confusing naming scheme above, Microsoft has apparently decided to change to a more familiar sounding format. The touchscreen version will be referred to as Windows Mobile 6 “Professional“, the smartphone version will be “Standard“, and the handheld but not a smartphone will be “Classic“.

I read that a couple of days ago as a rumour but to be honest, I really couldn't see how the new naming would reduce confusion...

indeed I think it makes it less clear to understand what is what

There is an unofficial crossbow rom ( for the k-jam/wizard) doin the rounds at xda-developers...also a chinese crossbow rom for the prophet/jamin... both roms are still buggy and do not offer complete functionality..but initial reports seem encouraging

Those ROMs aren't tailored for each handsets... Microsoft seems to half test features of WM6 on various handsets instead of opting for a single handset, as a complete test product. They had used MPx200 durin WM5 development & so it had a fully workin WM5 upgrade leaked on d net...

No wonder MS is playin safe dis time. But the XDA guys r gud in gettin around such situations... If they cud enable GPS on GPSless Trinity, then sure they'd get Crossbow workin...
